:: NURPUR SILK MILL ::

           The Silk Filature (renamed Nurpur Silk Mills) was established in the year 1964 for the reeling of silk cocoon to give boost to the sericulture activity under taken by poor farmers. It was transferred to the Corporation in 1969 and has served its mandate. This being the only unit of its kind in the State has helped greatly  in the  development  of Sericulture  Industry  as the entire crop was purchased at remunerative prices  fixed by the state Govt.  As against production of 210 qtls. of cocoon by 1200 families engaged in the rearing of cocoon in 1969, the production  increased to 1520 in qtls.and over 7,000 families are now engaged in the rearing of silk cocoon.           

This is a composite mill comprising of two sections viz reeling of cocoon and weaving of fabric.  The silk yarn reeling activity was closed in March 2000 as the operations had become non-viable.  As regards the weaving of silk fabric, the unit has been producing chiffon fabric.  However in the last 3-4 years, the production of value added fabric such as chiffon-zari, crepe-zari and soft silk has been introduced.
