:: COUNTRY LIQUOR ::

             Till 1975, the country liquor was imported from neighboring States, which often resulted in one State or the other loosing on excise   revenue due to malpractice’s generally indulged in the trade.  In addition, the State Excise Department was also loosing revenue as the export of liquor from other States to H.P. involved export duty levied by the exporting States. 

            Ever since the establishment of Country Liquor Bottling Plant at Mehatpur in 1975, it has been meeting the entire demand of the State by supplying double distilled country liquor as per requirement of the state Excise Department.  Its main product Una No.I has created a name for itself due to its very good quality.  The unique feature of country liquor produced in this unit is its spicing and re-distillation process under which the impurities are removed.  This process is carried out under direct supervision of the Excise officials posted in the plant.  Since the country liquor is consumed generally by people belonging to lower income group, its quality parameters and adherence to such standards is of great significance to consumers.                

             The Country Liquor Bottling Plant has fulfilled its mandate.  Besides meeting the demand of excise licences by supplying them the required quantities of country liquor in time without fail, it now contributes around Rs.5.00 Crore annually to the State exchequer by way of Excise Duty and Sales Tax.  There were instances when the  bottling plants in the private sector backed out from making supplies whenever the prices of  Rectified spirit shot up and the Country Liquor Bottling Plant, Mehatpur was asked to meet the entire demand so that the excise revenues were not adversely affected
